Overview

Environmental Documentary Photography for the Working Forests Initiative

Photographed for the Working Forests Initiative, this project documents the full lifecycle of working forests, from greenhouse-grown saplings to mature forests and responsible harvest. We shot with real foresters, nursery workers, and tree planters, portraying them as they are, grounded, skilled, and deeply connected to the land. I used environmental portraiture to humanize forestry and help communicate WFI goals of advancing understanding of environmental, economic, and societal benefits of working forests. I approached the imagery with a documentary lens, emphasizing natural light, rugged texture, and a color palette rooted in greens to visually connect each stage of the forest cycle. By contrasting growth, stewardship, and harvest within the same visual language, the project presents working forests as dynamic, renewable landscapes shaped by both people and time.
